Way2go Bike Ed

Way2Go Bike Ed is a state government funded program managed by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) and is a key component of the Way2Go Program. The Way2Go Program promotes safer, greener and more active travel for primary school students and their communities. The aim and goals of the Way2Go Program are to improve road safety in school precincts, strengthen road safety education in schools, provide travel behaviour change initiatives to encourage primary school students and their communities to choose active travel to safely walk, ride and scoot to school and around their local areas.

Bike SA is the delivery partner for Way2Go Bike Ed. Each year, Way2Go Bike Ed is delivered to up to 4000 students in approximately 60 schools in both metropolitan and regional areas across the state. Way2Go Bike Ed participation can lead to increases in active travel to school and the associated health, wellbeing, environmental and social benefits.

Way2Go Bike Ed provides bicycle education for primary school students from years 4 to 6. It aims to help students:

  • learn basic bike handling skills
  • develop traffic awareness to safely negotiate off- and on-road environments
  • improve road safety and road rules knowledge
  • build on their capacity to make safe and responsible decisions as a bike rider.

Way2Go Bike Ed includes:

  • delivery by qualified and supportive instructors
  • student bike safety checks
  • practical sessions delivered in the school grounds and on the local road network
  • Australian Curriculum aligned learning resources
  • student learning journal and participation certificate
