As part of Amy’s Ride SA, Bicycle SA runs the Family Shiraz Trail Ride, a 12km loop ride which takes in the very best of McLaren Vale. The ride itself is great fun and there are some great things to do and places to explore.

The Shiraz Trail is an 8km walking and cycling track along an old railway line between McLaren Vale and Willunga. And if you’re up for it, the trail continues another 29km to Marino Rocks as the Coast to Vines Rail Trail. It’s great to do with family and friends, and you can even say goodbye to the car by catching the train to Seaford!!

There are loads and loads of fantastic things to do along the trail, and we’ve created a list of a few great little experiences to check out.

The Oxenberry Farm

The Oxenberry Farm is a great little cellar door café along the Shiraz Trail which is well worth a look. It was here in 1840 in this picturesque green lush valley where Devonshire farmers William Colton and Charles Hewett set up with their respective families to start new lives in Australia. The Vineyard isn’t just about wines, as it has a gorgeous little café serving coffee, cakes, treats and light meals. They also do some delicious cider.

Hither & Yon

Located in Willunga (so it will be at the end or start of your trail, depending on where you kick off), Hither & Yon is a pretty special little place. It is the passion-project of two local McLaren Vale brothers. The tasting room is in a gorgeous heritage building and has been tastefully renovated with a country style. Think red wine, fireplaces (in winter), local food, and often they have good tunes kicking out with the Cellar Door Sessions. Definitely worth a look.

Serafino Wines

Serafino Wines is where Amy’s Ride SA’s Family Shiraz Trail Ride will start and finish and we must admit, it’s a fantastic place to relax on the lawn on a summer’s day. The lake here is nothing short of amazing, there’s a cracking restaurant and some delicious red and white wines on offer through the cellar door.

Russell’s Pizza

Russell’s pizza is also based in Willunga and has a legendary reputation. Serving the region’s most delicious pizza and some pretty special wine, this boutique wood fire pizza restaurant is a casual relaxed experience with a glorious rustic feel. We highly recommend booking as it’s only open Friday & Saturday (6:30pm – 11:00pm) and can sit only 100 people.
