FAQ’s of Bike SA Insurance

What is member public liability insurance?

This insurance provides protection to you in the event of an action being made against you for negligence resulting in bodily injury and or property damage.

What does personal accident insurance cover?

The policy covers items such as Loss of Income, Lump sum benefits following Death or Permanent Injuries, Non Medicare Medical Expenses and Rehabilitation Costs.

Is my bicycle insured for theft or damage?

No, the policy does not cover your bicycle

Are there any geographical limits?

The policy provides worldwide coverage on both personal accident and public liability insurance.

 

Am I covered if I have an at-fault accident?

Yes you are covered for injuries and liability even if the accident was your fault.

Am I covered by the Personal Accident Insurance if I am unemployed, a full time student or a pensioner?

Yes you are covered under all sections of the policy excluding Loss of Income.

Can I claim on my Private Health Insurance as well as the personal accident policy?

You must initially claim on your Private Health Insurance and then claim on the personal accident policy for any Non Medicare Medical expenses that exceed the limits of your Private Health Insurance

Is the Medicare Gap claimable under the Personal Accident Policy?

No, the Health Insurance Act (Cth) 1973 does not permit the Insurer to contribute to any charges covered by Medicare (including the Medicare Gap). This means that any charges for treatment from a Doctor, Surgeon, Anaesthetist or Surgeon’s Assistant are not covered. It also means charges for X-Ray, some MRI Scans (if Medicare registered) and Public Hospitals are not covered. In addition, there will be no refund in respect of:
a. any expenses recoverable by You from any other insurance scheme or plan providing medical or similar coverage or from any other source except for the excess of the amount recoverable from such other policies/plans.
b.. any expense to which the National Health Act (Cth) 1953 or any of the regulations made there under apply..

What does Member Liability Insurance cover?

Member’s legal liability to compensate third parties with regard to Personal Injury/Death and/or Property Damage as a result of an occurrence arising from the bicycle riding activities of the member. 24hr/7 day a week cover.

Am I covered if I damage someone else's property whilst participating in a Bicycle Riding Activity?

Damage to another person’s property as a result of an accident where you are found to be negligent is covered under this liability policy. For example if you damage a third party vehicle and are found to be negligent the policy will cover the damage less the policy excess.

Am I covered if I cause bodily injury to someone else whilst participating in a Bicycle Riding Activity?

Injury caused to another person’s property as a result of an accident where you are found to be negligent is covered under this liability policy. For example if a member causes another rider to fall and is found to be negligent the policy will cover the damage to the third party less the policy excess.

What is the policy excess?

$750 Each & Every Incident. This is payable for all claims.

What do I do if I am involved in an incident?

  • Do not admit liability to the third party under any circumstance.
