The finishing touches to the Green Smoothie track are complete and it’s now open for business. Take your fat tyres to Cudlee Creek and enjoy the free-flowing fun along this green rated slice of heaven.
MTB man-on-the-scene Peter Stokes took his knobbly steed to check out the newly upgraded track. Here’s what he has to say about the new track.
“The Green Smoothie trail, constructed in 2012 and opened in 2013 with funding from the Office for Recreation and Sport, was developed as a beginner-friendly flow trail. It’s a great fun trail that starts near the Croft Rd carpark at Fox Creek and descends 141m over three kilometres to the main carpark on Fox Creek Rd below. During a visit in December last year, Joey Klein – IMBA guy and general trail sage – advised Bike SA that the Green Smoothie trail while flowy, could be even flowier. In April this year, IMBA sent over one of their roving trail ninjas, Alex Harrington. Alex had two weeks with a mini-excavator to give Green Smoothie a facelift. Not a full job, maybe just a couple of small flowtox injections. With the short amount of time Alex had to cover the 2.9km of trail, he focussed on reshaping berms and jumps that were too abrupt and breaking the flow of the trail. And before you cry, ‘dumbing down!’ there’s still just as much speed and airtime to be had if you go looking for it. Probably more. It took a little longer than anticipated to do the final grooming, but thanks to the efforts of a few key volunteers on compacting tools, with lasts week’s sunshine and wind Green Smoothie is now nicely dried and ready for riding.’
Thanks to Forestry, IMBA and Bike SA crews who’ve brought it all together. Take your bike and just ride. Let us know what you think. Just to get all those of you who love single track salivating – check out a few photos below of the revamped trail below.
