18 February 2019:
It's warming up again for the first Grand Slam ride of 2019 at Gumeracha this Sunday.
Whilst the forecast currently indicates a maximum of 38 degrees for Adelaide, it will be a few degrees cooler in the Adelaide Hills and the high temps will not be realised until around mid-afternoon. With a start time of 8am and a relatively short ride distance of 40km or 80km, all riders should be finished well before maximum temps are reached.
For those who are keen to get an earlier start to beat the heat, registration and check-in at Gumeracha will be open from 7am. Once you've received your ride number you will be free to head off on Loop 1 at your leisure.
Please be aware that the refreshment team may not yet be in place on Loop 1 if you start early so we would advise that you take some extra water / snacks with you just in case you miss them.
Make sure that you're carrying at least 2 x 600ml (min) bidons filled with water before you depart. It's also a good idea to drink a full bottle to hydrate your body before you depart as well.
You will be riding through Kersbrook township at 30km on Loop 1. There is a general store / service station there if you need to top up with water.
