FREE Adelaide city bikes

Since 2005, the Adelaide City Council has sponsored the Adelaide City Bikes free daily bike hire program. Tourists, visitors, city workers, students and residents see Adelaide City Bikes as a convenient way to get around the CBD, whether for a business meeting or just catching up with friends.

Free Daily Bike Hire

Adelaide City Bikes are free to hire between 9am - 4.30pm from Bicycle SA or at other outlets listed below. Hire includes the use of a helmet and if required a bicycle lock. A current passport or drivers license must be deposited by each user at the time of hire. If you wish to hire the bicycles overnight please contact Bicycle SA on 08 8168 9999 to arrange a quote.

How do I hire an Adelaide City Bike?

To take advantage of the Adelaide City Bikes scheme, all you need is either your current driver's licence or passport.
Your ID will be held as a deposit for the duration of the hire and will be given back to you when you return your Adelaide City Bike to the point of hire.
If you get a puncture, or a more significant mechanical failure, simply call Bicycle SA on 8168 9999 for assistance (Monday to Friday within the CBD only).
It is a requirement of the law to ride with a helmet and these are available in a range of sizes. Additionally, each bike will be fitted with a bike lock, which means you can hop off your bike to shop or go for lunch confident that your bike will be where you left it when you return.

When can I hire a bike?

During operating hours of participating nodes.

Please note that bikes can only be used during daylight hours and will not be hired out on days where the temperature for Adelaide have been forecast 38 degrees and above. Check www.bom.gov.au for current weather forecasts. Nodes may be closed on Public Holidays or in extreme weather.

Please note that you must return bikes to the same location from which it was borrowed from.
