Free puncture repair and tyre change sessions - free for all Bicycle SA members during July (and $20 for non-members)

Yes, it's true that a puncture can be deflating on more than just a tyre! We've surveyed some of our members and found that many, even experienced riders, have been left feeling discouraged by a lack of knowledge on fixing a puncture and it is affecting how regularly they ride. A simple and fun 40 minute session in our workshop this winter will equip you with the know-how to quickly fix a puncture or replace a tube, re-inflate your tyre and your sense of self sufficiency and be on your way! No need to bring your own bike, we'll supply everything for the session. And the best thing, it's free for all Bicycle SA members!

Two session times available:

Location: 111 Franklin Street, Adelaide

Call 8168 9999 or email Office@bikesa.asn.au to book into session. Places limited to 10 per session.

If you're not a member of Bicycle SA why not consider joining, otherwise non members can still participate in this session for $20.

Better Bicycle Commuting - free lunchtime presentation offer for Corporate Members of Bike SA (or $250 for non member workplaces)

This is an engaging presentation by Bike SA at your workplace. For current and contemplative commuters - it will equip, empower and inspire them to see commuter cycling as a worthwhile pursuit, and how it can be done safely. Find out about best practises on safety and awareness, defensive cycling, specific cycling road rules, the safest routes to take, equipment, some light hearted anecdotes and an opportunity to ask questions.

It will also address the common types of cycling accidents that are occurring in metropolitan areas and how to mitigate those risks - a useful presentation for workplaces that are promoting cycling.

Three session times available:

Location: at your workplace where possible (inner metro Adelaide)

Call 8168 9999 or email Office@bikesa.asn.au to book a session for your workplace.

If you're not a Corporate Member of Bike SA why not consider joining and offering your employees the full benefits, otherwise non member workplaces can still host this session for $250.

Reminder: Watch out for tram lines in Glenelg.

Cyclists are reminded of the dangers of tram lines, as Jetty Road in Glenelg claims more victims. According to the Flinders Medical Center, on average two people per week are operated on due to accidents along the tram tracks.

So take extreme caution when riding along tram lines, and when possible, take alternate routes.

Melrose Fat Tyre Festival

Since its inception 10 years ago, the Fat Tyre Festival has celebrated the sport of mountain biking in the Southern Flinders Ranges and changed this small town of 200 people, putting it on the worldwide map of must ride MTB trails.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Fat Tyre Festival, hundreds of mountain bikers descended on the beautiful town of Melrose over the long weekend, hit the 80km of trails, enjoyed the local food and wine and the fantastic atmosphere that the town is famous for.

We watched little kids enjoying their strider bikes around the campground, bigger kids hurling around the new pump track and everyone with a MTB exploring the amazing single track on guided rides, skill sessions and girls only rides.

With fantastic music at the local pubs and glorious sunny days, it was the perfect weekend to celebrate 10 years of Fat Tyre fun at Melrose!

Short-term closures to the veloway along the Southern Expressway

Closures to the veloway along the Southern Expressway are required for ETSA service relocation associated with the Southern Expressway duplication and are necessary to ensure public safety. The closures will affect the section of veloway between Majors Road and Lander Road. Detours will be put in place and will be marked with directional signage and detour maps. The detour route is approximately 1.6km longer than the existing 2.4m of closed veloway and utilises the road network along Majors Road, Adams Road, Heysen Drive and Lander Road.

The details of the short-term closures are as follows:

The Cycle Instead Journey Planner has been updated and although the aforementioned short-term closures will not be updated on the Journey Planner (as they are only required for a short time), all longer term closures have been updated. Modifications have been made to the cycling network around the Southern Expressway duplication, where several bridges are closed and there are detours for the Patrick Jonker Bikeway and the Coast to Vines as a result. This includes path closures and temporary paths built. The Cycle Instead Journey Planner is a good way for users of the cycling network in the area to find the best way around closures, and it will be kept up to date with as the works progress in the area.

Check out the Cycle Instead Journey Planner

For more detail about cyclist and pedestrian detours please call the project information line 1300 626 097, or email dpti.southernexpressway@sa.gov.au Additional Project information can also be found at www.infrastructre.sa.gov.au.
