Mt Lofty Challenge Ride information
Bike SA is delighted to announce that roads through the Adelaide Hills will be closed exclusively for the Mt Lofty Challenge as part of VeloAdelaide on 18 March 2012. Adelaide Hills Council has voted in favour of the temporary road closures for:
- Summit Rd, from Crafers to Mt Lofty and Greenhill Rd
- Woods Hill Rd and Stony Rise Rd, from Summertown to Ashton
- Monomeith Rd, Marble Hill Rd and Montacute Rd, from Ashton to the bottom of Montacute Rd
This is great news and means you will enjoy 35km of traffic-free roads for the Mt Lofty Challenge, sharing the full width of the road only with other riders. From the start in the Adelaide CBD, you will have a police escort and green lights to the start of the South Eastern Freeway, and as we've already announced the east-bound lanes of the Freeway will be closed to cars, trucks and all other traffic so you can ride through the Heysen Tunnel all the way to Crafers (vehicle traffic will be diverted via the Old Mt Barker Rd). Then from Crafers you get even more closed roads all the way up to Mt Lofty, then along and back down the ranges, so you can relax and enjoy the challenge of riding to Mt Lofty and back.
Note: time limits apply to each road closure section - please check Road Closure Information for details so you can choose the route most suitable to your abilities Click Here to view route options and maps
