Frequently Asked Questions

When do registrations close?
Online and hardcopy Registrations close at midday on Saturday 17th March
Registrations received after this time will not be processed. You can however register in person at the event start on Sunday morning.

When do I get my Rider ID and jersey (if purchased)?
All riders are requested to collect their Rider ID during specific pre-registration times here at 111 Franklin St. This will save you time at the start. You can collect your Rider ID between 8.30am and 5.00pm on Thurs 15 & Friday 16 March and between 8.00am and 12.00pm on Saturday 17 March. If for some reason you cannot make it in to collect your Rider ID before the ride you will be able collect it at the start location.
Please note: they are not mailed out. You can collect on behalf of someone else providing you have a copy of their payment receipt.

What sort of bike do I need to have?
On our recreational rides there will be a great range of bikes out on the road from older mountain bikes/hybrids to the latest road bikes. Smoother tyres will make your ride easier/quicker but don't feel you need the latest bike to be able to enjoy the fun of participating! It's definitely a good idea to get your bike checked at your local bike shop beforehand.

What should I wear?
March is likely to be warm so we suggest wearing a moisture wicking lycra shirt or a simple cotton t-shirt is excellent too. Padded bike pants are great or else a comfy pair of shorts/cargo pants. Plenty of sunscreen & hydration is very important! Check the forecast & ride updates in the days preceding the event to plan your attire and ensure you are well prepared!

How steep is the Freeway and how will I know if I can make it?
The average gradient along the SE Freeway from the old Toll Gates to Crafers is 5.7% incline. If you're a little unsure about how steep that is and whether you'll make it, click here to compare the gradient with other popular hill climbs and test yourself before the ride. You need to be able to maintain an average speed of 12km/h from the start of the Freeway to Crafers to complete this ride section within the allocated road closure time frame.

What happens if I am still riding along a closed section of road on the Mt Lofty Challenge when it is scheduled to re-open?
There are specific times for the closure of certain road sections forthe Mt Lofty Challenge and they will be re-opened to normal traffic at the advertised times. (Details to come shortly). If you are still riding along that section of road you may continue riding however you will need to be aware that you will be sharing the road with cars as well. The exception to this will be the South Eastern Freeway. Riders who are still on the Freeway at the advertised re-opening time will picked up by support vehicles and transported to Crafers.

Can I decide on the day if I want to ride the 110 km or 80km instead of the 50km?
Yes - as the ride is the same price you can continue on the extra loop but please make sure you take into account the road closure times. Depending on how fast you ride you may find that previously closed sections of the route have re-opened to general traffic.

Can I transfer my ride to someone else if I can't ride?
Sure - we will just need the details of the new rider via a hard copy form & letter of permission.
