 | National ride to work day | | National Ride to Work Day is an opportunity for businesses,
organisations and communities to increase the numbers of people riding
to work by having them register and participate in the National Ride to
Work Day event.
National
Ride to Work Day is a FREE event, it costs nothing to register and
workplace coordinators receive a free promotional kit to assist them to
encourage others in their office to also participate in the event.
Businesses, organisations and communities have the option of running
their own event (e.g. a riders breakfast) on National Ride to Work Day
12th October 2011, or participating in an event already being held in
their area. Adelaide CBD Breakfast In celebration of the National Ride to Work Programme, join us for a yummy breakfast and entertainment at Victoria Square on 12 October from 7am to 9am. Be the last to finish and win! During the Ride 2 Work Day breakfast on Wednesday the 12th October 2011 anyone can take part in the Slow Ride Challenge, and we will finish with Celebrity Slow Ride Challenge. The Slow Ride Challenge will test rider's skills in a snail pace race. Pit your skills against other challengers over a mere 4 metres using City Bikes. The winner is the last person over the line or to have moved the least distance over a 30 second period. Feet cannot touch the ground.
Why a slow ride challenge? Riding slowly is an important commuter riding skill that requires a complex mix of balance, coordination and control. Commuters apply this skill when riding slowly between lines of traffic, creeping up to a stop light, or negotiating pedestrian traffic on shared footpaths. Advanced riders can balance motionless. Bike SA teaches this amongst many other skills to adults wanting to join the commuter or recreational riding revolution taking place in SA. Riding slowly can be added to your repertoire of defensive cycling techniques.
Why Ride to Work? Riding to work offers many benefits including:
- Reductions in greenhouse gas emissions
- Urban congestion reductions
- Increased workforce productivity through improved health and well-being
- Reduced public health expenses through disease prevention and facilitation of recovery
- Improved social cohesion and connectedness in the workplace and neighbourhood setting
- Regular cycling not only makes you look and feel great, it reduces the likelihood of obesity, heart disease, diabetes and some cancers
WORKPLACE COORDINATORS Workplace Coordinators have the crucial role of promoting this National Event to their colleagues. Once registered all coordinators receive a free promotional kit and team code. Pass the code around the office and encourage all your colleagues to register as participants.
