Fundriase for the Heart Foundation - Go Red for Women Campaign

Heart disease remains one of Australia's most devastating health problems, claiming a life every 22 minutes.

It is the biggest killer of men, and is also the number one cause of death in Australian women - a fact that surprises many people, especially women.

On average, 201 women die from heart related illness every week, which equates to about 29 deaths every day. This figure is four times higher than the number of female deaths caused by breast cancer.

With only 1 in 5 women aware of this fact, they are still dangerously unaware of the risk they face.

To help address this issue, the Heart Foundation launched Go Red for Women - a campaign that unites women in the fight against heart disease, helping to raise awareness of their risk and promote healthier choices.

The Heart Foundation would like to thank everyone for their support in 2011, especially those of you who proudly supported us through fundraising as a Heart Foundation Hero. As a charity, we rely on the community to help us carry out our lifesaving work and together you have united in raising over $5,200 to go directly towards raising awareness of heart disease.

A huge congratulations must also go to Rachel Dreyer, our Heart Foundation Highest Fundraiser and Winner of the TEFAL Actifry valued at over $375. Rachel raised over $1,800.00 for her ride and has been a loyal supporter of the Heart Foundation over a number of years.

Rachel is a PhD Student and is currently undertaking doctoral studies in gender differences amongst patients with cardiovascular disease so not only is she a great friend of the Heart Foundation but also obviously has a real passion for women and heart health.
