Join champion cyclist and 2004 Tour Down Under winner, Patrick Jonker, on Sunday 29 April for UniSA's inaugural Ride for Pain and help raise awareness about the frequently overlooked issue of chronic pain. Recreational riders and families can enjoy the 35 kilometre beach route, with a 100 kilometre Adelaide Hills endurance course available to cycling enthusiasts. Those with a passion for the cause - and the cycling talent - are challenged to conquer Corkscrew Road in a bid to overcome adversity and acknowledge the parallel challenge faced by those suffering from chronic pain. Chronic pain is a huge problem in Australia, with 1 in 5 suffering from a chronic pain disorder that reduces their quality of life. It costs Australia around $35 billion in health care costs and lost productivity and has major social and family consequences. Yet many still see it as 'socially unacceptable', with the topic swept under the carpet in much the same way depression was, until recently. The difference? Community awareness. How can you help? Join UniSA's Ride for Pain.
