 | Ride information | | Join Bicycle SA, the Amy Gillett Foundation and over 3,000 fellow riders for the fifth edition of Amy's Ride SA and support road safety campaigns in SA. Amy's Ride SA is a fun and fully supported community bike ride, with several ride options to suit riders of all ages and abilities. Set and strive to exceed your own personal challenge with this year's two new timed sections, including the Southern Expressway, exclusively closed for the event. "The best cycling event I have ever been part of" (Anna, 2011)
There are five new exciting elements to this year's event:
- Get timed along the Southern Expressway and up Old Willunga Hill.
Everyone riding 30km/65km/100km/120km will have an electronic tag that
will calculate your riding time along these two legs, so you can set
yourself a target and compare your times with others. Results will be
posted at the finish and on the website. Amy's Ride SA is a fun
recreational ride, but knowing your time is a great way to challenge
yourself (and set yourself a benchmark for next year!)
- A new 120km distance - the 'Grande' - which takes riders up Old Willunga Hill twice. Yes, if you want to test yourself like the professionals, you can double up on our biggest challenge ever
- 18km Family Shiraz Trail ride option between McLaren Vale and Willunga, perfect for families
- Onkaparinga residents can ride for free the 18km Shiraz Trail loop - fully supported, including refreshments
- A fresh new jersey design, exclusive to Amy's Ride SA 2012
We start from Flinders University (Bedford Park) at 08.30am, but get there a bit early to catch up with riding mates and attend the rider's briefing. The 25KM will start at 09.00am from O'Halloran Hill (cnr Majors Rd and Morphett Rd) and the 18KM Shiraz Trail ride will start at 9.45am from the McLaren Vale Visitor Center - also the finish for all other riders. Details and maps of the starting venues will become available closer to the event. | Ride options | | Riders can choose between 120km/100km/65km/30km/25km/18km rides. Please note route maps are subject to change.
120KM GRANDE - Route Map The Grande takes riders up Old Willunga Hill twice. Yes, if you want to test yourself like the professionals, you can double up on our biggest challenge ever. (time limits apply) 100KM CLASSIC - Route Map If you don't get out of bed for anything less than 100km and you quite like the idea of riding the Southern Expressway as well as having a crack at the famous Willunga Hill, then you're in luck, because this ride's for you. This ride explores the Fleurieu from coast to hills! 65KM CHALLENGE - Route Map If riding the Southern Expressway is thrilling enough and you're not really a hill-climbing person, then the 65km option is the go. Factor in some picturesque coastal roads - plus a well-earned glass of the local drop and some fine food at the finish - and you have yourself the perfect ride. 30KM COAST TO VINES EXPRESS - Route Map Riders young and old can join the masses along the Southern Expressway for the 30km option - including O'Halloran Hill at the beginning of the expressway. Before you know it finish at McLaren Vale, triumphant in the sun. 25KM COAST TO VINES EXPRESS - Route Map The Southern Expressway starts with a challenging hill climb. If you would prefer not to ride it, you may instead start at the top of the hill! You still ride along the Southern Expressway, but from its intersection with Majors Road, O'Halloran Hill. This cuts out 5km from the total distance, and makes for an easy start. 18KM FAMILY SHIRAZ TRAIL - Route Map The Shiraz Trail takes riders from McLaren Vale to Willunga and back along a sealed off-road path, passing vineyards producing world-class McLaren Vale wine. This ride is perfect for families with young children.
